Tomorrow is the last day to purchase the pre-order tickets to the Spring Festival!  PTA will be at the flagpole after school. Save time (and money) by purchasing your tickets early! Tickets will be used for all games and raffle baskets.  Avoid the lines and buy your tickets tomorrow.  We are very excited to see everyone at the Spring Festival THIS Friday from 4-8pm.  Thank you for your continued support of Arroyo West.  Go Wranglers!

Our annual Spring Festival is less than two weeks away!  This is our biggest and most fun event of the year and it is for the entire family.  This year’s theme - Artists Color the World - will highlight all our students’ artwork in the MPR and Library.  Plus, we have games, silent and live auctions, fun activities for all ages, food trucks, a DJ, raffle baskets put together by each classroom, a cake walk and SO much more!  PTA will be selling tickets after school Thursday and Friday of this week, Monday through Wednesday of next week.  Please buy your tickets early and avoid the lines!  Plus, you’ll receive extra bonus tickets ONLY if you purchase them ahead of time.  We look forward to seeing everyone at the Spring Festival Friday, April 12th from 4-8pm right here on the blacktop. On a separate note, please make sure that you check in and out through the main office if you are on campus during school hours. Current air quality is showing "good" on http://www.vcapcd.org/index.htm. As a result we will be treating today as a normal school day.  We continue to monitor the situation and will make changes as necessary.  The library is open at recess and lunch for those who wish to stay indoors.

All Moorpark schools are closed today due to surrounding fires and lack of personnel due to mandatory staff evacuations throughout the county.  Please be safe and know that this decision is based on the safety of our students and staff.

Our “Enchanted Forest” Book Fair is off to an exceptional start.  Please join us this week for more events including our “Lunch with Someone Grand” on Tuesday the 6th at lunch, and our “Pastries with Parents” on Thursday the 8th beginning at 7:45.

This Friday, in honor of Veteran’s Day, we will be holding a Hero Day Spirit Assembly at 8:30.

Also, remember that tomorrow, Tuesday, November 6 is election day and our campus is a polling location.  Please make sure to be considerate of our guests and also don’t forget to vote!

The November PTA General Association and Executive Board Meeting will be this Thursday November 1st. General Association will be held in the AWALA Library at 6pm. Executive Board Meeting will immediately follow at 7pm.

We have a few quick updates!  First, the second round of AWALA PTA Spirit Wear orders is happening now.  Please return your order form by November 8.  Next, our “Enchanted Forest” Book Fair starts this Thursday, November 1 – I can’t wait to see what amazing books we get this year! Finally, as October 31st is still a learning day, we encourage sending your child to school in a festive Halloween shirt or dressed in Halloween colors. Even on Halloween, all general dress code rules still apply. 

  • Rules regarding shoes (closed-toe athletic shoe), hats (not allowed in class), toys, accessories etc. are the same on any day of school.
    • Clothing should not pose a threat to safety or health.
    • Clothing should not be a distraction for the academic environment.
    • A “full costume” is typically in violation of either the safety or distraction portion of this policy due to one of many factors including but not limited to:
      • Appropriate shoes
      • No face covering/paint/masks
      • No distracting “accessories”
    • Please ensure that your student’s attire on all days is in compliance with these policies.

All students have earned College/Sports Attire for this Friday, September 28 based upon the third-week success of our Fun Run Fundraiser.  Please keep in mind that regular dress code rules continue to apply.  Keep up the great work of supporting our PTA and our school!

 

Ballots for our School Site Council have gone home in Thursday folders today.  The school site council is the primary organization for developing and approving our school’s plan for student achievement. There are 5 open positions available on the School Site Council and ballots should be returned no later than October 5.

There is no school tomorrow, Wednesday September 19.  We will see you back on Thursday morning which is PICTURE DAY!  Please make sure to have your student dress for pictures and bring their picture order form and payment to school. This week also marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month which will run from now through October 15 and will include events in class and at our October Assembly.

This is Mr. Fennell, Principal of Arroyo West calling with a few reminders.  First off, I am excited to report that all students have earned Disney attire for tomorrow based upon the first-week success of our Fun Run Fundraiser.  Yay!  Please keep in mind that while we encourage Disney attire tomorrow, regular dress code rules continue to apply including the requirement for appropriate athletic shoes, no distracting accessories, etc.  More details can be found ibelow.

 

Second, I would like to remind you to please follow all safety guidelines, posted signs, and traffic laws in the parking lot and pick-up and drop-off areas.  With so many people moving around at these times it is especially important that we take extra care to be safe.  Please make sure you remind your students about staying safe as well.

AUGUST 27, 2018

This is Mr. Fennell, Principal of Arroyo West calling to remind you about morning drop off in the Kindergarten play area.  By the beginning of next week, we ask that all drop offs take place at or outside the gate to the Kindergarten yard.  This will help teach our students important lessons about independence and continue to provide a safe environment for our children to play. 

 

Beginning Tuesday, September 4, the Kindergarten yard will be for students only.  Any parent needing to come on campus will need to check in through the main office.  Thank you so much for your continued support!  Go Wranglers!

 

AUGUST 27, 2018

This is Mr. Fennell, Principal of Arroyo West calling to remind you about Back to School Night. This Thursday, August 30th is the Arroyo West Back to School Night.  The PTA will be meeting in general session at 5:00 PM in the library.  Our incredible PTA will provide a wealth of information about events and programs that help to make AWALA great!

 

At 6PM teachers for grades 3, 4, and 5 will open their classrooms to tell you about the year and answer questions. Grades 1 and 2 will open their classrooms at 7PM. This exciting evening will teach you all about Arroyo West and your student’s specific class.  I can’t wait to see all of you there! This is Mr. Fennell, the Principal of Arroyo West Active Learning Academy welcoming you to the 2018-2019 School Year! Tomorrow is the first day of school!  We are all so very excited to welcome your students back.  As a reminder, the TK – 3rd Grade school day begins at 8:30 and the 4th and 5th grade school day begins at 8:15.  The campus gates will open at 7:45 AM.

 

Following the beginning of the first day of school I will be holding a Principal Chat in the MPR. Beginning at 8:35, I will be available to discuss the upcoming year, or just to say hello! I can’t wait to meet you all!

 

Also, as we begin the year, please remember that parking, drop off, and pick up around the school can be challenging. Please be considerate of the parking laws and areas during this busy time. Being patient and thoughtful will go a long way. I really appreciate your support with this. We look forward to seeing you here tomorrow!  Go Wranglers!
